Amtrak’s new NextGen Acela train made its first passenger trip from Boston to Washington on Thursday. The trip was a big step in Amtrak’s plan to make its high-speed rail service better. The train reached speeds of up to 160 miles per hour and had many new features to make the ride more comfortable for passengers.
The new Acela trains are a big improvement from the older models that have been used since 2000. The inside of the train looks nicer, with bigger windows, smooth seats, and clean surfaces. There is even a slight new-car smell that makes the train feel fresh and modern.
Cameron Billie, an assistant conductor on the NextGen Acela, said, “We’ve been waiting for this for a decade, and it’s finally here.” Amtrak worked with a French train company called Alstom to make these new trains. They spent $2.35 billion to replace the old Acela fleet. Passengers on the first trip were excited to try out the new train, even though it left Boston very early in the morning.
New era of Amtrak travel
One person who loves trains even traveled all the way from California to be there. They said, “It’s very special and unique to be here to take part in an inaugural high-speed train.
It’s quiet. It’s smooth. I love it.”
The new Acela trains have many features that make the ride better for passengers.
These include faster Wi-Fi, bigger windows, grab-and-go food options, and power outlets at every seat. In the coming weeks, there will also be screens that show where the train is and a self-checkout option in the cafe car. Overall, the NextGen Acela train is a big step up from the older version.
It combines better comfort with new technology to create a more enjoyable high-speed rail experience for Amtrak passengers.
