Apple unveiled its latest AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Watch Series 11, featuring advanced health and fitness capabilities.

Why it matters: These updates reflect Apple’s commitment to building a comprehensive health ecosystem, significantly impacting users’ health and wellness while bolstering its market position.

The details:

  • AirPods Pro 3 boast the world’s best in-ear Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), removing up to twice as much noise as its predecessor.
  • The new in-ear design ensures a better fit and greater stability, with five sizes of foam-infused ear tips.
  • AirPods Pro 3 integrate a custom-built heart rate sensor and workout tracking, supporting up to 50 different workout types.
  • Live Translation enables real-time interpretation of face-to-face conversations in select languages.

The Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 also received significant health-related updates, including alerts for patterns consistent with hypertension and a 100-point sleep score system.

What they’re saying:

  • “With AirPods Pro 3, the most popular headphones take a massive leap forward,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
  • “The stationary position in the ear leads to better heart rate tracking, and with Apple’s scale, it won’t be long before consumers finally see the benefits and start demanding this from other brands too,” said Jitesh Ubrani, International Data Corporation research manager.

Apple expects FDA clearance for the hypertension detection feature soon and anticipates it could help notify over 1 million people about potential hypertension in its first year.

What’s next: The AirPods Pro 3 are available for pre-order beginning today, with in-store availability starting on September 19. Best Buy is offering a $20 reward for purchasing the new earbuds, while the Apple Watch Series 11 starts at $219 with qualifying trade-ins.

AirPods Pro 3 get heart rate sensing during workouts. Probably doesn't mean much to Apple Watch users, but this matches what we saw get added to Beats.
