Elgato has launched the Facecam 4K, a new webcam that supports interchangeable lens filters. This feature, typically found in professional cameras, is a first for a webcam. The Facecam 4K is compatible with any 49mm lens filter.

Users can attach circular polarizing (CPL) filters to reduce glare from glasses or experiment with cinematic effects like diffusion. Elgato is offering a free CPL filter with purchases made through its official store. The webcam records in 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second.

It features Sony’s Starvis 2 CMOS sensor with an f/4.0 aperture and fixed focus. The camera connects via USB-C and weighs just 0.26 pounds.

Facecam 4K features and compatibility

Elgato’s Camera Hub software allows users to manually adjust settings such as ISO, exposure, shutter speed, pan, tilt, and zoom. These settings can be saved directly to the camera’s built-in memory. The Facecam 4K is also compatible with the Nintendo Switch for enhanced streaming.

Users need to update the Switch’s firmware to version 2.32 or later to use this feature. While the Facecam 4K shares many features with Elgato’s existing Facecam Pro webcam, the latter does not offer lens swapping capabilities. However, the Facecam Pro does include a superior sensor and is priced at $300.

The Facecam 4K is available now for $200. It aims to provide content creators with DSLR-like quality in a webcam form factor. The launch comes at a time when demand for high-quality visual content is growing across various platforms.
