Google has taken a humorous jab at Apple’s AI capabilities following the launch of the iPhone 17 series.

Why it matters: The playful rivalry highlights the ongoing competition between tech giants in the smartphone AI space, with Google positioning itself as a frontrunner.

The details:

  • Google’s latest video in the #BestPhonesForever series, titled “Generational Gap,” satirizes the iPhone 17’s AI capabilities by depicting it attempting whimsical tasks like teaching chickens to sing and coaching turtles to run a bank.
  • The video contrasts these quirky tasks with the Pixel phone providing realistic AI solutions, emphasizing the difference between playful jabs and practical capabilities.
  • Apple’s AI advancements have not fully met user expectations, with features promised in the iPhone 16’s AI update remaining delayed.
  • Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 series, set to be unveiled on August 20 in NYC, boasts significant AI advancements, including the anticipated Magic Cue feature.

Google’s tagline, “When iPhone’s plans run afoul, Pixel promptly generates some helpful advice,” encapsulates the essence of its latest jest.

Samsung’s response: Samsung also took a dig at Apple, referencing its foldable phone technology, which is still absent in Apple’s new devices.

  • Samsung Mobile US retweeted an old post from 2022 that said, “Let us know it when it folds,” adding the caption, “#iCant believe this is still relevant.”
  • Samsung further responded to a post by YouTuber Marques Brownlee, stating, “Actual innovation > hype #iCant.”

What’s new in iPhone 17: According to Apple’s VP of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, the iPhone 17 series features upgrades such as a bigger and brighter ProMotion display, all-day battery life, the A19 chip, a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, and the Center Stage front camera.

What’s next: As these new products hit the market, the debate between Apple and its competitors is expected to continue, with tech giants leveraging marketing tactics to highlight their competitive edges.
