Microsoft has released an out-of-band update to address issues caused by recent Windows 11 security patches. The problems affected the functionality of various system tools, including ‘Reset this PC,’ ‘Fix problems using Windows Update,’ and the ‘RemoteWipe CSP’ function used in enterprise environments. Users encountered failed upgrade attempts, with some receiving the error code 0x8007007F.
The issues primarily impacted Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, as well as Windows 10 version 22H2 in some cases. Devices running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019 were also affected. Microsoft released the corrective update, labeled KV5066189, on August 19, 2025.
Fix for Windows 11 SSD issues
The company recommends installing this optional update for users who have encountered the issues. However, those who were not affected or do not plan to use the impacted processes can choose not to install the update.
Regarding the upgrade error on Windows 11, Microsoft resolved the issue by August 15, 2025. Devices attempting to upgrade after this date should no longer experience the 0x8007007F error code. If users still encounter the error, Microsoft suggests retrying the upgrade process, which should typically resolve the problem.
The August 2025 Patch Tuesday release addressed several critical issues across Windows, Exchange, and SharePoint. Despite the initial disruptions caused by the updates, Microsoft’s prompt response and corrective measures have restored functionality and mitigated user frustrations.
