Native Instruments has introduced a new free synth plugin called Massive X Player. It is designed to make the company’s next-generation Massive X synth more accessible to a wider audience. The original Massive synth, released in 2007, became one of the most influential software instruments.
It defined the sound of 2010s EDM with its gritty wavetable oscillators and robust modulation tools. In 2019, Native Instruments released Massive X, a powerful yet complex successor. Massive X Player is a preset-driven version of the synth.
It allows users to explore an extensive library of sounds without delving into the intricacies of the full synth engine. The preset library includes basses, leads, pads, and more. All of these can be adjusted with eight macro controls.
The synth introduces three noteworthy features to enhance the user experience. The Morpher is an XY pad that allows users to blend between multiple presets. This can be done manually or modulated using the Animator.
The Animator is a set of pattern-based modulation curves that can be synced to project tempo.
Massive X Player features overview
The Randomize Button generates a randomized sound that can be refined using the macro controls.
Massive X Player is available as part of NI’s free Komplete Start bundle. It includes various other instruments and effects. It’s also accessible to current Massive X owners, who can open Player presets in the full synth engine for deeper customization.
The Player version’s current limitation prevents users from assigning custom presets to the Morpher grid. This is something Native Instruments may address in future updates. Massive X Player also includes the Bass Music Essentials expansion pack.
It is focused on low-end sounds for electronic music producers. The synth aims to democratize access to one of the most powerful synths on the market. It merges user-friendliness with high-quality sound design tools.
It stands as a fast and fun solution for users seeking quick-access sounds without sacrificing depth and complexity. Massive X Player is available for download now. For more information, visit Native Instrument’s official website.
