Nintendo fans were treated to a jam-packed Nintendo Direct presentation in September 2025. The event was filled with exciting announcements for both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 console.

One of the biggest reveals was the release of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch 2 on October 2, 2025.
Nintendo also announced “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” set to premiere on April 3, 2026. New amiibo figures featuring Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas will launch alongside the movie. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond got an official release date of December 4, 2025.

The game will introduce Samus riding a new motorcycle called Vi-O-La and using psychic abilities. Amiibo figures for Samus, Vi-O-La, and Sylux will be released in November and December. A visual retrospective book, “Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective,” will be available on October 28.

Fire Emblem fans can look forward to Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave in 2026. The game revolves around Heroic Games where the Divine Sovereign grants a wish to the victor.

Donkey Kong Bananza received a new DLC pack, “DK Island & Emerald Rush,” which launched the same day as the Direct.
The DLC adds a new level filled with nostalgic references and introduces various challenges and unlockables.
Super Mario Galaxy highlights and movie
Pokémon Pokopia, a cozy life-sim and farming game starring a Ditto, was announced for a 2026 release.
Players will grow crops, build homes, and interact with various Pokémon. Yoshi stars in a new game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, scheduled for Spring 2026. Yoshi partners with a character named Mr.
E to learn about the world and document discoveries. Nintendo surprised fans by announcing the revival of the Virtual Boy. A physical model compatible with over 14 games on Switch, along with a more affordable cardboard version, will be available on February 17, 2026.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A received new footage ahead of its October 16 release. The “Mega Dimension” DLC introduces Mega Raichu X and Y and focuses on mysterious distortions in Lumiose City. Super Mario Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, launching in Spring 2026, will include a new multiplayer mode called Meetup in Bellabel Park.
A talking flower physical version from the game will also be available. Mario Tennis Fever, set for a February 12, 2026 release, boasts 38 playable characters, 30 specialized Fever Rackets, and various new game modes, including an Adventure mode where Mario and his friends are turned into babies. The Direct also kicked off the 40th anniversary celebration of Super Mario Bros., hinting at more events and announcements to come.
