Nintendo has released a new firmware update for the Switch 2 and the original Switch. The update brings the system to version 20.4.0.
According to Nintendo’s official support page, the patch notes for this update are brief. They state that version 20.4.0 includes “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”
In addition to the stability enhancements, some minor adjustments have been made specifically for the original Switch model.
These include updates to the controller-handling code and the web browser. This update appears to be a minor one focused on improving the overall stability of the Switch systems. It follows a similar pattern to recent firmware updates, which have primarily emphasized stability over introducing new features or functionality.
Firmware update improves system stability
The rollout of version 20.4.0 comes about a month after the previous update, version 20.3.0, which also focused on system stability. While Nintendo’s patch notes are often brief, users have sometimes reported improvements in the backwards compatibility of older games following these updates.
If any further information becomes available about what’s included in this latest update or any specific backwards compatibility fixes, we will provide an update. Users are encouraged to download the latest firmware update to ensure their Switch systems are running optimally. The update is now available for download on both the Switch 2 and original Switch models.
