Housemarque reveals extended gameplay and new combat systems for their upcoming game, “Saros,” set to launch on March 20, 2026, for PS5 and enhanced for PS5 Pro.
Why it matters: “Saros” promises to build upon the success of Housemarque’s award-winning game “Returnal,” introducing new gameplay elements and an immersive story set on the hostile alien planet of Carcosa.
The details:
- The gameplay footage, captured on a PS5 at 60fps using Unreal Engine 5, showcases a variety of changing environments and enemies on the shape-shifting planet Carcosa.
- Players control Arjun Devraj, performed by Rahul Kohli, as he explores the planet during a total eclipse, encountering key characters like Nitya Chandran, played by Shunori Ramanthan.
- Arjun’s Soltari advanced combat suit allows for dashing, melee attacks, jumping, and the use of both Soltari human weaponry and Carcosan alien weaponry.
- Unique abilities include the Soltari Shield, which absorbs hostile projectiles to charge up the devastating Carcosan Power Weapon, and the “Second Chance” ability that allows Arjun to rise after his first death using eclipse corruption energy.
The game integrates immersive storytelling through voice-over, cinematics, audio logs, and NPC interactions, with Soltari Holograms scattered throughout Carcosa revealing the planet’s backstory.
Collaborations and soundtrack:
- Housemarque collaborates with numerous teams within PlayStation Studios, including XDEV, Nixxes, and the PlayStation Studios Creative Arts teams, to enhance the game’s art and gameplay elements.
- The dark-electronic meets drone-metal score is composed by two-time Grammy Award-winning Sam Slater, known for his work on acclaimed soundtracks.
What’s next: Housemarque plans to share more details about the story, NPCs, and the planet Carcosa as the March 20, 2026 launch date approaches. “Saros” is now available for wishlisting on the PlayStation Store.
