AMD’s AI-powered FSR 4 upscaling technology is now available for most games that previously supported FSR 3.1 with DirectX 12, according to the company’s latest 25.9.1 driver update.

Why it matters: This marks a significant milestone for AMD, as FSR 4 is now officially supported in more than 85 games, providing gamers with high performance and crisp, high-definition visuals that rival native resolution.

The details:

  • FSR 4 utilizes machine learning algorithms to intelligently predict and compensate for lost pixels during low-resolution rendering.
  • The new driver allows users to enable FSR 4 in games through the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition app, expanding its availability and ease of use.
  • Titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima now feature this advanced upscaling technology.

However, the release isn’t without its issues. AMD has noted several known problems that users might encounter, such as corruption, crashes, and stutter in various games.

Compatibility and requirements:

  • FSR 4 is compatible with games that support DirectX 12 and have adhered to the guidelines set out in AMD’s FSR 3.1 documentation.
  • It does not support titles running on the Vulkan API or those using non-standard methods of integrating FSR 3.1, such as third-party plug-ins.
  • FSR 4 is exclusively accessible on RDNA 4 hardware, meaning it cannot run on Radeon RX 7000 or 700M series unless specifically forced.

AMD also hinted at working on an FP8 version of FSR 4 when it released the new SDK files, signaling their commitment to expanding FSR 4 support to more hardware in the future.

The bottom line: Radeon RX 9000 users can now download the latest driver to check whether their games support FSR 4, offering enhanced graphics performance with minimal effort from the user’s side.
