Overwatch 2 has teamed up with Hasbro’s iconic Nerf brand for a new collaboration featuring weapon skins and a free-for-all game mode.

Why it matters: This collaboration marks a shift in Overwatch 2’s cosmetic offerings, focusing on weapon skins rather than character skins, and provides players with a new way to customize their favorite heroes.

The details:

  • The collaboration includes seven heroes with Nerf-themed weapon skins: Soldier: 76, Baptiste, Tracer, Mei, Genji, Hanzo, and Cassidy.
  • Cassidy is the only character to receive a full Nerf-themed skin, complete with a Nerf Maverick pistol, Vortex Football grenade, and other cosmetic changes.
  • A limited-time game mode called “Nerf or Nothin'” challenges players to be the first to 20 eliminations using the new Nerf weapon skins.
  • Players can earn free items like a weapon charm, player icon, and spray by participating in the “Nerf or Nothin'” mode, as well as the Tracer Gelfire Pro weapon skin.

The collaboration builds upon Overwatch 2’s previous partnership with Hasbro, which featured G.I. Joe-themed content.

What they’re saying:

  • “We wanted to try out what a full weapon skin collaboration would look like. Nerf’s blasters fit our Overwatch heroes’ weapons perfectly, making it a fun and fitting choice.” – Aimee Dennett, Overwatch 2’s Associate Director of Product Management
  • “Turning Cassidy’s hat backward and fitting a Nerf dart where his cigar would be really solidified the character’s new aesthetic.” – John Gotch, Overwatch 2’s Associate Art Director
  • “We want to ensure we are doing things that different types of players would enjoy, especially with our collaborations.” – Aimee Dennett, on the importance of diversity in the game’s offerings

What’s next: The Overwatch 2 x Nerf collaboration is set to launch on August 5, with the event running until August 18. Players can look forward to experiencing the new game mode, earning rewards, and customizing their heroes with Nerf-inspired weapon skins.
