Wave Function Ventures, a solo-GP-led venture capital firm focusing on critical deep tech sectors, has successfully raised $15 million for its inaugural fund.

Why it matters: The newly secured funding is expected to bolster the firm’s ability to support startups at the cutting edge of technology, aiming to drive innovation and economic growth in various critical sectors.

The details:

  • Wave Function Ventures specializes in investing in the earliest stages of companies pioneering advancements in high-impact industries.
  • The firm has already invested in nine companies across sectors including aerospace, defense, energy, robotics, and infrastructure.
  • These portfolio companies have attracted follow-on funding from top-tier firms.

This development reflects a growing investor interest in deep tech, which encompasses fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced materials, and other transformative technologies.

The founder: Jamie Gull, the solo General Partner of Wave Function Ventures, brings extensive experience in aerospace, defense, and venture-backed hardware startups.

  • Gull previously worked on the Falcon 9 reentry at SpaceX, designed aircraft at Scaled Composites, and co-founded Talyn Air.
  • He provides invaluable experience and insights for early-stage founders, helping them shape their ideas into compelling product plans and visions.

“There’s never been a better time to build in hardware and create the next generation of impactful companies with enduring legacies,” Gull stated. “The best part is building something that truly matters.”

The future: With Fund I now closed, Wave Function Ventures is committed to building, backing, and supporting incredible founders who tackle the world’s most pressing problems while scaling the firm into a leading investor in hardware for the future.
