Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, Drag x Drive, sparks mixed reactions following its Global Jam demo.

Why it matters: As a new IP for the Switch 2, Drag x Drive aims to introduce innovative gameplay mechanics and online multiplayer, but its reception will impact its success and the platform’s lineup.

The details:

  • Drag x Drive is a 3-on-3 sports game that uses mouse-like controls with the Joy-Con controllers.
  • The game will launch on August 14, 2025, for $19.99 / £16.99.
  • It supports up to 12 players online but lacks local multiplayer.

Community reactions to the Global Jam demo are divided, with some appreciating the innovative controls and others expressing concerns about the learning curve and depth of content.

Poll results:

  • 65% of respondents stated they are not interested in purchasing the game.
  • Some believe the price is reasonable but worry about the game’s longevity.
  • Others feel Drag x Drive resembles a tech demo rather than a full-fledged Nintendo title.

The game’s success will largely depend on user reviews and post-launch support.

In other news: Nintendo Switch Online members can obtain exclusive Drag x Drive icon elements for a limited time by redeeming My Nintendo Platinum Points.

The Global Jam demo times:

  • Saturday, Aug. 9: 3-7 a.m. PDT, 6-10 a.m. EDT, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. BST
  • Saturday, Aug. 9: 5-9 p.m. PDT, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. EDT, 1-5 a.m. BST (Aug. 10)
  • Sunday, Aug. 10: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. PDT, 12-4 p.m. EDT, 5-9 p.m. BST

The demo is available for preload, allowing players to jump in as soon as the sessions begin.
